What are the 4 safety rules
Always walk during class never run
Wipe up or clean messes immediately
Make sure saucepan handles face inwards and have a pot stand and some oven gloves ready to remove it from the ovens
Carry sharp knives by the handle facing down
What are the personal hygiene rules
Wash hand with hot soapy water before practical
Remove all jewellery and nail polish
Wear a clean apron and tie back long hair
Cover cuts with blue waterproof plaster
Don’t cough or sneeze over food and don’t eat or drink
What are three examples of kitchen hygiene
Use a clean dishcloth to clean desks and a clean tea towel for dishes
Ensure all equipment is clean before use
Use red chopping board for raw meat,onions and green for bread,cooked meat,fruit and vegetables
Spray antibacterial spray over desks and wipe down before practicals
How do you treat:
1.A minor cut
2.A burn
3.A scald
1.washed under cool water and dried cover with blue waterproof plaster
2.+3.run it under cold water for about 10 minutes or until the pain subsides
What is a burn and what is a scald
Burn= caused by dry heat e.g. touching a hot grill
Scald= wet heat e.g. steam from kettle
What are the cooking utensils
Bowl scraper=removes mixture from bowl
Wooden spoon = stirs sweet food when cooking
Rolling pin = rolls out dough
Red spatula = stirs savoury food
Pot stand = used to rest hot pots on
Fruit board= used for cutting up fruits,veg cooked meat and bread on
Meat board = used for cutting up raw meat, onions and garlic
Tray= to place food on for the oven
Fruit knife = used to cut fruits and vegetables
Peeler= use to peel skin off fruits and vegetables
Grater= used to shred foods such as cheese and Carrots
Cooling tray= this allows air to circulate hot foods on
Measuring jug= measures liquids
Mixing bowl = used to mix larger ingredients in
Spoons= for mixing measuring and stirring small amounts of ingredients
Dishcloth and cloth= used to wipe around tables sinks and to dry dishes
What are the steps before a practical
1.tuck in stool and bag ,check laces are tied
2.put on apron
3.tie back long hair
4.remove jewellery and watches
5.wash hands with hot soapy water
6.spray and wipe tables
7.wait instructions from teacher
