Means-tested
The provision of need-based public assistance and financial aid by government that is available only to individuals falling below a predetermined level of income or assets
Medicaid
Created by Congress in 1965, a joint federal and state financed public assistance program administered by the states that provides payments directly to means-tested low income individuals and families
Affordable Care Act
A federal statute signed into law by President Barack Obama in 2010, which among other provisions, expands Medicaid coverage, mandates health insurance exchanges, eliminates pre-existing conditions, and allows children to be covered on a patient’s health insurance until the age of 26
