What is Cimetidine classified as?
Histamine H2 receptor antagonist
What is Cimetidine’s mechanism of action?
Blocks histamine H2 receptors and decreases gastric secretion
What are H2 Blockers route of administration?
Oral or I.V.

What are the side effects of Cimetidine?
- Gynecomastia with long-term use
- Impotence for some

Proton Pump Inhibitor
What is Omeprazole’s mechanism of action?
Inhibits H+/K+ pump (proton pump) in the gastric parietal cells
What is the route of administration for the PPIs?
Oral
What are the contraindications of Omeprazole?
- increase concentrations of diazepam, warfarin, and phenytoin by decreasing their clearance by the liver
- PPIs can reduce absorption of ketoconzole and increase absorption of digoxin
What are the side effects of Ranitidine?
Rare : agitation, anemia, confusion, or depression
What are the side effects of Omeprazole?
-Diarrhea, nausea, skin rash, dizziness
What is the side effect of Rabeprazole?
Headache
What is the classification of Sucralfate?
Mucosal Protective agent
What is the mechanism of action for Sucralfate?
binds selectively to necrotic tissue to form a barrier against gastric acid
