Intrauterine device (IUD)
Intrauterine device (IUD):
- IUD known as the copper coil
- MOA - Cu ions thought to create hostile environment
- Effective contraception immediately
Interuterine system (IUS):
- IUS, known as Mirena system, releases leveonorgestrel
- MOA - thickens cervical mucous and secretions
- Prevents endometrial proliferation
- Effective contraception after 7 days

Male sterilisation:
- Easier to perform than than female
- Done as out-patient
- Two semen samples supplied at 16 and 20 weeks
Female sterilisation:
- Performed under GA
- Mant different methods used
