Grudem Chapter 3 Flashcards
What is the canon of Scripture?
The canon of Scripture is the list of all the books that belong in the Bible.
When did the Old Testament Authorship Period End?
After the prophet Malachi.
Describe how the Jews viewed the Apocrypha.
Never accepted it as Scripture but the debate lied in whether or not to include the Apocrypha in Scripture.
What book that we consider canonical today was excluded in the early canon?
Esther.
Why Should the Apocrypha not be regarded as Scripture?
1) They do not claim the same authority that the Old Testament writing did.
2) They were not regarded as God’s words by the Jewish people from whom they originated.
3) They were not considered to be Scripture by Jesus or the New Testament authors.
4) They contain teachings inconsistent with the rest of the Bible.
Who was the authority to write in the New Testament Canon?
The apostles.
What books did the apostles not write in the New Testament?
Mark, Luke, Acts, Hebrews, and Jude.
Why were Mark, Luke, Acts, and Jude accepted into the New Testament Canon?
The authorship was either believed to be the apostles or a close relationship with the apostles or Christ.
Is the canon full and nothing left out from us?
Yes.
