Grounding Requirements - Section 10 Flashcards
What is the difference between a grounding conductor and a grounded conductor.
A grounding conductor is the conductive path between a service box and a grounding electrode. A grounded conductor is an identified/neutral conductor.
If a system has a neutral conductor, must it be grounded?
Yes.
In a single dwelling which three portions of an electrical installation require grounding?
- Circuits
- Service equipment
- Other equipment.
Could one ground gas piping on the street side of a single dwelling gas line?
No, because the pipe would corrode with a large current on it.
Would standard locknuts and fittings be suitable to bond a metal service raceway?
No, size a service raceway bonding jumper from table 41.
With a hot sequence meter, which colour wire should be used to bond the meter socket to ground?
White (neutral)
Why would one bond a gas and water pipe to a grounding system?
So that accidental current imposed on the piping has a path of low impedance and does not cause damage to people or property.
When sizing for a busbar installation, which table should be referenced?
16 B
Should all metal enclosures be bonded?
Yes except:
- Small runs
- (1.5m) for protection of conductors.
- (7.5m) where the piping is unlikely to touch ground.
When must a grounding conductor be installed in conduit?
When it is # 8 awg or smaller. (In DC circuits normally)
