grand remonstrance 5 Flashcards
build up: first session of parliment
c.1 gave his royal assent to some measures which saw his royal prerogative dismantled.
moderate mps who opposed c.1 now on his side to restore relationship, while radicles still wanted to reduce his power. = mps divided
so pym introduced the remonstrance as
concerned with moderated drifting to c/1, he was keen to ensure they stayed behind his radicle platform to help reduce the king power (militia issue).
he knew the king needed money from p to raise army + Irish rebellion so he hoped c.1 would feel obligated to respond to grievenses by approving remonstrance
oververiw of the remonstrance:
1)outline abuses of PR(blame luad/strafford not c.1)
2)outline achievement made during 1st session>displaying as defender of king
3)suggest new reforms eg p control army/ control king advisers,ministers/bishop and catholic peers removed from h.o.l
concequenes of grand remonstrance (failed to be passed thru p)
