An infection of goats caused by Coxiella burnetii. What are the clinical signs? Clinical signs include subclinical, occasional abortion outbreaks, susceptible pregnant females develop necrotising placentitis (which causes the abortion), and some show anorexia and depression one to two days before aborting. Goats may become immune to abortion due to this disease after infection, but remain subclinical (may carry organisms indefinitely and shed sporadically in milk and at parturition).
