O- Anterior Superior iliac spine
I- Iliotibial tract
N- Superior gluteal nerve
A- Flexes thigh
Gluteus Maximus
O- Ilium, sacrum, coccyx, and sacrotuberous ligament
I- Iliotibial tract and gluteal tuberosity
N- Inferior gluteal nerve
A- Laterally rotates thigh, active during powerful extension (stairclimbing, getting up from squatting postion)
Gluteus Medius
O- Ilium between anterior and posterior gluteal lines
I- Greater trochanter
N- Superior gluteal nerve
A- Posterior: abducts, extends, and laterally rotates thigh
Anterior: abduct, flexes, and medially rotates thigh
Gluteus Minimus
O- Ilium between anterior and inferior gluteal lines
I- Greater trochanter

A- Posterior: abducts, extends, and laterally rotates thigh
Anterior: abduct, flexes, and medially rotates thigh
Piriformis
O- Sacral segments 2-4
I- Greater trochanter
N- S1-S2
A- Rotates thigh laterally, abducts thigh, holds head of femur in acetabulum
Obturator Internus
O- Around the inside of the obturator foramen
I- Greater trochanter
N- Nerve to obturator internus
A- Rotates thigh laterally, holds head of femur in acetabulum
Superior Gemellus
And Inferior Gemellus (Gemelli)
O- Superior: ischial spine Inferior: ischial tuberosity I- Greater trochanter N- Superior: nerve to obturator internus Inferior: nerve to quadratus femoris A- Laterally rotates thigh (mostly stabilizes)
Quadratus Femoris
O- Ischial tuberosity
I- Intertrochanteric crest
N- Nerve to quadratus femoris
A- Laterally rotates thigh
