Q

give a brief note on on the following messages of global water and the future

  1. The worlds water resources are under rapidly growing pressure
    a. how can we manage the growing pressure
  2. without ‘riparian’
cooperation, water will increasingly breed conflict
A

per capita water availability is gradually decreasingly specially Africa as compared to from 1960 to 2025 per capita water availability has decreased from 15 to 2.1 thousand metre cube which is drastic.
water resources are limited with rapid increases in users and uses as the world population is increasing. in that manner we can manage the water resources by
a. establishing infrastructure for management of the flood and droughts, multipurpose storage , water quality and source protection.
systemic institutional framework and management instruments.
political economy of water management.

b. proper management of water supply and sanitation,
irrigation and drainage, efficient use in energy, environmental services, other uses including industry and navigation.

Q
  1. Without major water investments, many poor economies cannot grow
A

Climate variability and growth has been of the concerning issues relating to the water insufficiency. In africa due to the climate variability many chunks of the country is suffering from drought which inturn effects the economy of the nation. In kenya cost of climate variability due to drought is $4.8 b which is huge. Like wise in ethiopia 1982-2000 the economy of the country is total depends upon the rainfall.
if there is sufficient irrigation it can lift the rural poverty by improving the GDP

Q

without ‘riparian’

cooperation, water will increasingly breed conflict

Q

why should riparian states cooperate?

A

The riparian states should cooperate with converging national agendas because for instance country 1 and country are riparian states. where they have diverging agendas of their own . In that manner they would not share benefit but yield conflict. in other wise if they share similar interest of agendas with converging cooperation they would beneficial for both.

Q

A Cooperation Continuum

A

dispute arises when there is unilateral action from one the cooperation with proper agreement of the other. this needs coordination which is facilitated by communication and notification, information sharing and regional assessments upon agreed discussion. After that both the parties have to collaborate by means of identification, negotiation, implementation of sets that caputre cooperation gains, adapt national plans to mitigate regional costs and gains. this would lead to joint action through joint project assessment and design, joint ownership, joint institutions and joint investment. after all these executions there would integration and peace is gained.
