Global food Flashcards

1
Q

Areas of surplus and deficit/global food, security risk

A

On average people need around 2500 cal a day to live a healthy life
Calorie intake is very uneven across the world
The highest calorie intake is in North America and parts of Europe. Obesity is a growing problem
The lowest calorie values are found in Africa together with isolated countries in the Middle East and Asia. Many countries suffered serious food, shortages, leading to malnourishment and undernourishment in most serious cases, famine and starvation time result.
There are also huge variations in calorie intake with an individual countries, both rich and poor

Q

Economic development on the consumption of food, increasing

A

Economic development, such as in China and India increases the demand for food.
People become richer, they can afford to buy a greater quality and quantity of variety to food
Richer people tend to eat more than four people, so as a country develops, the demand for food increases
Die often change is with an increase of meat consumption in China is a percentage of meat in diets rose from 6% in 1981 to 17% in 2011 life suck a fat cereals to produce meat for people T where is it? Used to be people who mostly eat cereals
Demand for convenience and highly processed rate increases with economic development as people have less time to grow their own food

Q

Population growth

A

Population growth increases the pressure on free production and supply. The worlds population has grown rapidly since 1950 and its current level is about 8 billion almost always growth has been an LIC is an NEE is wifey. Production is low and many people suffer from food insecurity
The fastest population growth is two. 51% . per year. This is the constant suffering from a nice food insecurity in my calorie intake.

Q

How does Climate affect food supply

A

Droughts and floods climate change can have catastrophic effects on food production
For example, in sub-Saharan Africa, many farmers are dependent on seasonal rains, which sometimes fail recent drought in Ethiopia and Somalia. Of course, severe food, shortages, and migration droughts could lead to desertification and salinisation.
Patterns of rainfall victory, changing as a result of climate change. Some areas of the world may produce more food. Where is other areas may suffer from more frequent droughts and floods.

Q

How does technology affect food supply?

A

Food supply in distribution in low income countries can be affected by the lack of

Q

How to pests and diseases affect food supply

A

M Many tropical regions suffer from past and diseases and they often lack of money to protect crops and livestock.
Locusts can devastate food crops.
Cattle can be infected by airborne bacteria, causing bovine pleuropneumonia.

Q

Water stress affecting food supply

A

There is a serious issue. A mini Elysees by climate change is expected to cause more damage. The lack of a security together with you out reduces free production. HICs can afford expensive water transfer scheme or irrigation projects where is L ICs cannot

Q

Conflict affecting food supply

A

E.g. Somalia, Syria, South Sudan
What does wraps the distribution of food?
Farmland, maybe minned
people forced to move away
Water supplies become polluted
Food aid may be restricted areas of military conflict

Q

Famine and under nutrition as an impact of food security

A

Famine can lead to malnourishment and nutrition and the weekend immune system
Are you an estimate to over 800, million people suffer from chronic malnourishment, most of whom live in low income countries

16
Q

Soil erosion as an impact of food insecurity

A

Overcultivation overgrazing, together with lack of rainfall can lead to serious soil erosion particular in semi arid regions. This reduces so fertility in limits food production.

17
Q

Rising prices as an impact of food insecurity

A

When food supply falls prices rise, for example, Paul Green, harvest in Russia, Australia and Pakistan in 2010, lets green shortages and price rises across the world. If price rises in local market for poor people cannot afford a balance diet, so many suffer from undernutrition.

18
Q

Social unrest impact of food insecurity

A

Future of writing and social unrest between 2008 and 2011 60 riots around the world were linked to food shortages
