Glenohumeral Joint Flashcards
How much of the humeral head is accepted by the glenoid cavity?
A little more than a third
What is the weakest part of the glenohumeral joint?
The inferior part of the capsule
What creates a ‘sleeve’ for the tendon of the long head of biceps brachii?
the continuation of the synovial membrane off the capsule. Makes a synovial sheath.
Name the ligaments that strengthen the glenohumeral joint, and state their purpose.
coracohumeral ligament: from the base of the coracoid process to the anterior aspect of the greater tubercle, strengthens the capsule superiorly
the coraco-acromial ligament prevents the superior displacement of the humerus from the glenoid cavity
Which group of muscles acts directly on the glenohumeral joint and which act indirectly on the glenohumeral joint?
appendicular muscles which may act indirectly on the joint scapulohumeral muscles, which act directly on the joint
What innervates and supplies the glenohumeral joint?
the glenohumeral joint is supplied by the anterior and posterior circumflex humeral arteries and branches of the suprascapular artery
the glenohumeral joint is innervated by the suprscapular axillary and lateral pectoral nerves
