Geomtetry Unit 3 - Parallel and Perpendicular Lines Flashcards
Parallel Lines
Co-planar; do not intersect
Skew Lines
Non-coplanar; do not intersect
Parallel Planes
Do not intersect
Transversal
Line that intersects with 2 or more lines
Alternate Interior Angles
Non-adjacent angles that lie on opposite sides of the transversal.
Same-side Interior Angles
On same side of transversal
Corresponding Angles
Same side of transversal, same angle
Alternate Exterior Angles
Non-adjacent angles on opposite sides
Corresponding Angles Postulate
If therea re 2 parallel lines then ocoresponding angles are congruent
Alternate Interior Angles Theorem
If a transversal intersects two parallel lines, then alternate interior angles are congruent
Same-side Interior Angles Theorem
If a transversal intersects two parallel lines, then same side interior angles are supplementary
Alternate Exterior Angles Theorem
If transversl intersects two parallel lines, then alternate exterior angles are congruent.
Postulate: Converse of the Corresponding Angles Postulate
2 lines cut by transversal: corresponding angles, alternate interior angles, and alternate exterior angles are congruent; same side angles = 180; lines are parallel
Theorem: Converse of the Alternate Interior Angles Theorem
If same side angles = 180 then lines are parallel
Theorem: Converse of the Same-Side Interior Angles Theorem
If same side angles = 180 then liness are parallel
