Geography (plate boundaries) Flashcards
Destructive plate boundary
●Oceanic plate meets continental plate
●Denser plate subducts (oceaninc)
●Process is not smooth, plates can get stuck
●Eventualy the plates move and cuases friction causing earthquakes
Constructive plate boundary
●Two oceanic plates move away from each other
●RUNNY magma plugs gap between plates
●Making a shallow soded volcano
●Earthquakes form because plates tear apart
Conservative plate boundary
●When plates slide past each other friction between them causes earthquakes
●plates can move in different directions or the aame dorection but at different speeds
●NO VOLCANOES
Collision plate boundary
●When two continental plates move towards each other they are forced to rise upwards because they have the same density
●Plates buckle and form fold mountains
●Powerful earthqukes but NO VOLCANOES
