Geo Graphy Test 1 Flashcards
Erosion
Erosion is when the earths crust is damaged or destroyed by wind water or any natural element.
Biophysical environment
It is the living and non living things around you
Folding
Th bending of rock layers due to stress in the earths crust
Earthquake
When the tectonic plates mov and cause violent shaking which can bring to damage or destruction to the earths surface
Rift Valley
Is a valley formed by the separation of tectonic plates
Deposition
Is when sediment is placed down in new locations
Landform
A natural feature of the earths surface
Hot spots
They are areas where rock from deep within the mantle melts through the crust above it
Tectonic plates
It is a theory stating that the earth surface sits above plates that move
Pumice
Is a very light and porous volcanic rock formed when a gas-rich froth of a glassy lava solidify’s rapidly
Reclaimed land
Land that has been drained so it can b used again for development.
Faulting
A crack in the earths surface when two pieces of land movs in different directions
Magma
Molten rock beneath the earths surface
Mid-ocean ridge
Is a underwater mountain chain where new ocean floor is formed
Weathering
Is the chemical and physical process of breaking down rock on the earths surface
Lava
Is liquid magma that reaches the surface; also the rock formed when liquid lava hardens
Volcano
Is a mountain (typically conical) having a crater or vent wich lava, rock fragments, hot vapour and gas are being or have been erupted from the earths crust.
Landscape
Is a large area with a particular kind of scenery, such as desert arid landscape
Arid landscape
Oasis, inselburg and grassland
Riverine landscape
Grassland, riverbed and billabong
Coastal landscape
Stack, beach and headland
Mountain landscape
Ridge, mountain and valley
Krast
Spring cave and stalectite
Economic value
The value of an organism , pieces or ecosystem based on its usefulness to humans
