gastrulation and primative streak Flashcards
where is the primitive streak found and what are the 3 parts of it
found on the epiblast layer of the embryo
3 parts = primitive pit, node and groove
with the primitive pit and node at the cranial end
what is gastrulation and what does it form
gastrulation is the movement of the epiblast cells through the primitive streak and in between the 2 existing germ layers, forming 3 primary germ layers
what 3 primary germ layers are formed following gastrulation
ectoderm, mesoderm and endoderm
what major tissue is derived from the ectoderm germ layer
epidermis of skin (hair, nails, glands) nervous system (brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves)
what major tissues are derived from the mesoderm
skeletal and smooth muscle
cardiovascular system
urogenital systems (kidneys, ureter, gonads etc.)
what major tissues are derived from the endoderm
lining of: gut tube, respiratory tract, bladder + urethra
