Ascites
Abnormal accumulation of serous fluid in the spaces between tissues and organs in the cavity of the abdomen
cholelithiasis
The production of gallstones in the gallbladder
Colic
an attack of acute abdominal pain localized in a hollow organ and often caused by spasm, obstruction, or twisting
Ecchymosis
A small hemorrhagic spot in the skin or mucous membrane, forming a non elevated, rounded or irregular, blue or purplish patch
Evisceration
An open wound of the abdomen may be large and deep enough that organs protrude through the wound opening
Hematemesis
the vomiting of blood
Hematochezia
The passage of blood in the feces
Ileus
Obstruction of the bowel; specifically: functional obstruction of the gastrointestinal tract and especially the small intestine that is marked by the absence of peristalsis, is usually accompanied by abdominal pain, bloating, and sometimes nausea and vomiting, and typically occurs following abdominal surgery
Jaundice
yellowish pigmentation of the skin, tissues, and body fluids caused by the deposition of bile pigments
mastication
to grind or crush food with teeth (chewing)
melena
the passage of dark tarry stool containing decomposing blood that is usually an indication of bleeding in the upper part of the digestion tract and especially the esophagus, stomach, and duodenum
peristalsis
progressive type of movement in which material is propelled from point to point along the gi tract
peritoneum
the smooth transparent membrane that lines the cavity of the abdomen
periumbilical
situated or occurring adjacent to the navel
referred pain
pain subjectively localized in one region though due to irritation in another region
