What does the breathing system do?
Takes air into and out of the body so that the oxygen from the air can diffuse into the blood stream and carbon dioxide can diffuse out of the bloodstream and into the atmosphere.
What is the movement of air into and out of the lungs known as?
Ventilation
How does the breathing system adapt to allow air into the lungs?
The rib-cage moves up and the diaphragm becomes flatter.
How does the breathing system adapt to allow air out of the lungs?
The rib-cage moves down and the diaphragm becomes oval shaped.
