-vaginal: clotrimazole, fluconazole, if resistant use itraconazole
-oral: nystatin, miconazole, fluconazole if resistant use itraconazole
what is skin and nail infections treated with?
topical therapy if cant use the system therapy is used which is itraconazole or terbinafine
what are the 5 locations that Tinea (ring worms can be found?
Tinea capitis: head
Tinea corpotis: body
Tinea cruris: groin
Tinea pedis: feet
Tinea unguium/ onychomycosis- nails
what is used to treat tinea?
topical anti fungal cream or terbinafine
what is the treatment for nail region of infection?
-terbinafine or amorolfine nail lacquer
-use once weekly for up to one year
-refer to GP if under 18, more than 2 nails affected, diabetic, pregnancy/ breastfeeding
what are some side effects of anti fungal medication?
-fluconazole, itraconazole, ketoconazole+ voriconazole
can lead to QT prolongation and heptticity
-least risk un fluconazole more risk in ketoconazole, itraconazole+ voriconazole
what is the interaction with itraconazole and carbonated drinks?
improves bioavailabiltiy
what is the fatal side effects with ketoconazole?
life threatening heptoxicity- oral treatment suspended
what is ketoconazole normal used?
-dandruff shampoo
what is the side effects of voriconazole?
-phototoxicty occurs uncommonly -avoid sunlight exposure
what side effect can amphotericin B cause?
cautions in renal failure
anaphlylaixs risk in IV, therefore give a test dose with 30 mins observation first
-can give prophylaxis antipyretic or hydrocortisone in patients with previous reactions
-should maintain same formulations between conventional, liposomal and lipid-complex formulations ,can be fatal
