What is the aim of instincts
To maintain homeostatic control of the body
What are the 2 types of instincts and what are they oriented towards?
Eros = Oriented towards survival. Like sex, hunger , social affiliation
Thanatos = Oriented towards aggression. Agro to others and self , trauma
Explain the life instinct
Life = Libido - drives a person towards pleasurable things
Sex - primary motivation, people are primarily pleasure-seeking
Cathexis = Investment of psychic energy into another person
Explain death instinct
Agressive drive = The complusion to destory conquer and kill
