Describe the Spanish present progressive tense.
The Spanish present tense has a continuous (progressive) form to express an action which is ongoing in the present.
Is the Spanish present tense similar to the English present continuous?
Yes
Ex. I am going, you are going, etc.
Yo estoy hablando con mi madre.
I am talking with my mother.
Tú estás corriendo la maratón.
You are running the marathon.
Ella está aprendiendo a cocinar.
She is learning how to cook.
Nosotros estamos cantando.
We are singing.
Ellos están viviendo en Caracas.
They are living in Caracas.
Ustedes están admirando el paisaje.
You are admiring the view.
How do you convert -ar verbs to Spanish Present Progressive Tense (I am going, you are going, etc.)
Drop the -ar and add -ando to the end of the word.
How do you convert -er and -ir verbs to Spanish Present Progressive Tense (I am going, you are going, etc.)
Drop the -er or -ir and add -iendo to the end of the word.
Convert hablar to present progressive tense.
hablar-> drop the -ar -> habl -> add -ando -> hablando
Convert correr to present progressive tense.
correr -> drop the -er -> corr -> add -iendo -> corriendo
