Fingertip Visual Cues

A

Vertical - exhaust stack on wing

Longitudinal - exhaust stack between aft wingtip light and pitot tube

Spacing - forward edge of horizontal stabilizer and rudder hinge aligned

Crossunder Procedure

A
  1. Reduce power and drop below 1
  2. Add back power to stop lag
  3. Bank slightly to change hdg a few degrees
  4. Roll out and add power for nose-tail separation (1’s canopy bow on elevator trailing edge)
  5. Reestablish 1’s hdg, add power to get back in position, reduce power to stay in position

Echelon Turn Procedure

A
  • Bisect horizon and 1’s fuselage
  • 1/2 yellow rescue food visible behind aft edge of wing

Correction:

  • bank = vertical
  • power = fore/aft
  • back pressure = spacing
