Form 4 Term 1 Physics Flashcards
Forces are measured in?
Newton’s
Mass is measured in ?
Kilograms
When two forces are pulling in the opposite direction with the same force they are
In equilibrium
When a car is travelling a constant speed what are the forces acting in it doing ?
Acting in equilibrium
What is another word for speed?
Velocity
Name three forces that oppose motion
Friction
Drag
Air resistance
Name three types of forces
Push
Pull
Twist
If forces acting on an object are at equilibrium what is the effect ?
NO CHANGE IN SHAPE DIRECTION OR VELOCITY/SPEED
What is a force diagram
Shows the forces which are acting on an object
Larger the arrow means larger the force
What is the RESULTANT FORCE on an object ?
Calculate by subtracting the opposing forces in each direction then add the total force
What is mass ?
The amount of matter in an object measured in KGS
What is weight?
The force of gravity acting on a mass
Measured in Newton’s (because gravity is a force)
What is gravity?
A fundamental force of attrAction that objects of mass have for each other
If my mass is 56kgs how many Newton’s is it on earth?
And On the moon?
560 Newton’s on earth (ten times weight)
90 Newtons on MOON
