What is a force?
A ‘push’ or ‘pull’
What force pulls me towards the ground?
weight
What force slows me down?
air resistance
2 ways I can reduce friction?
Streamlining or lubrication
What does weight do as a force?
It measures the effect gravity has on an object
What force opposes motion?
friction
How do you calculate weight?
mass * gravitational field strength (kg*N/kg)
What are 3 characteristics of a streamlined shape?
rounded shape, slowly tapering tail & smooth shape (no projections)
How do you calculate density?
mass / volume
When will a solid item float on water?
If it is less dense than the water
What is air resistance?
Force on an object moving through the air that causes it to slow down
Definiton of the newton meter:
Piece of equipment used to measure weight in newtons
Def of balanced:
forces acting on an object the same size but act in different direction
Def of unbalanced:
opposing forces on an object that are unequal
Are the different forces acting on an object equal?
No, the difference is called the resultant force
