Force and pressure Flashcards
SI unit of force
Newton
What is force?
The push or pull applied On a body to bring about some change in its position and form
Device used for measuring the size of force
Force meter or newton meter
What are balanced force?
The forces that are equal in magnitude and opposite in direction are balanced forces
What are resultant force?
The net force acting on a body which causes changes in it.The difference of the forces acting on different directions and sum of forces acting on same directions is the resultant force
What are the two types of force?
Contact force and non-contact force
What are the types of contact forces?
- Muscular force
* Frictional force
What are the types of Non contact force?
#Magnetic force #Electrostatic force #Gravitational force
Define weight and mass
A force that results from the action of gravity on matter is called weight.
Mass is an intrinsic property of matter.
The weight of our body in moon is
1/6 of our weight in earth
A device used to find weight of objects
Spring balance
What is magnetic field?
The area around a magnet where its effect can be felt is called magnetic force
What is pressure?
the force that is produced or exerted
Pressure depends on
- amount of force
- area
How is pressure directly proportional to force and inversely proportional to area ?
If the force is less, the pressure is less and if the force is more, the pressure is more.
If the area is less, the pressure is more and if the area is more, the pressure is lesser.
