Antagonizes the sedative effects of benzodiazepines in the CNS by inhibiting their actions on GABA
Flumazenil Indications?
Respiratory depression and sedation associated with benzodiazepine overdose
Flumazenil Contraindications?
-Hypersensitivity
-Tricyclic antidepressant overdose
-Seizure-prone patients
-Benzodiazepine dependence
Flumazenil Side Effects/Precautions?
- Seizures
- Agitation
- Confusion
- Visual disturbances
- Headache
- Hypertension
- Nausea/vomiting
- Tachycardia
Flumazenil Adult Dose?
Initial dose 0.2mg, increase by 0.1mg for effect up to 0.5mg/dose. Max 3mg total
Flumazenil Pediatric Dose?
Not recommended
Flumazenil Onset of Action?
1-2 minutes

Variable: Related to benzodiazepine plasma concentration
