Floating leaf disk lab Flashcards
Purpose
of floating leaf disks–> rate of photosynthesis
Procedure
- baking soda and soap in beaker-
- add hole punched leaf disks in syringe and put solution into syringe
- place under light
1) What was the function of the sodium bicarbonate in this experiment?
carbon source for the leaves
3) Explain the process that causes the leaf disks to rise.
The leaf disks rise because when more oxygen is produced the density decreases causing the leaf disks to float at the top.
What was the purpose of using water/soap solution for one of the trials?
The purpose of using water/soap for one of the to break through waxy covering
What is the effect of darkness on photosynthesis? Explain.
The effect of darkness on photosynthesis is that it will decrease the rate of photosynthesis.
If we were to boil the leaf disks, what kind of results would you expect? Explain.
By boiling the leaf disks, I expect that the rate of photosynthesis will slow and eventually stop. This is because there are enzymes present in the light-dependent reaction and increased heat will cause the enzymes to be denatured.
How does light intensity affect the rate of photosynthesis?
Light intensity affects the rate of photosynthesis if the light intensity increases then the rate of photosynthesis will also increase.
