Metaphor
A figure of speech that describes an object or action in a way that isn’t literally true, but helps explain an idea or make a comparison.
Caesura
Is a metrical pause or break in a verse where one phrase ends and another phrase begins. It may be expressed by a comma (, ), a tick, or two lines, either slashed or upright.
Enjambment
It is a sentence in a poem ghat ‘goes over’ to the next line without any punctuation stopping it.
Tone
This is used to give a feeling using certain adjectives rhymes and pace.
Tonal shift
The mood determines if it is a comedy, tragedy, romance or drama. Within a story there are shifts in the tone as the story progresses. These tone shifts are what makes the story exciting.
Iambic Pentameter
Iambic pentameter is a rhythm structure, used most commonly in poetry, that combines unstressed syllables and stressed syllables in groups of five.
Personification
When you give an non-human object and human charicteristic.
E.G= The storm growled.
Alliteration
Alliteration is using two consecutive words to give a pace and feeling.
E.G= A pleasant park
Ryhme scheme
A rhyme scheme is the rhymes in a sentence that sound the same.
E.G=
What is this thing called a blazer.
I look like a dodgy stargazer.
It made me itchy.
It made me twitchy.
I look like i’m doing a fundraiser!
Rhythm
The rhythm can be describes as the beat or pace of a poem. This can indicate what people it isnfor and what emotions are shown.
Onomatopoeia
Onomatopoeia is making a word that resembles the noise that occured.
Slang
Slang is informal language.
Colliquial language
Everyday language or general parlance, is the linguistic style used for casual communication. It is the most common functional style of speech.
Nonsensical language
Gibberish, also called jibber-jabber or gobbledygook, is speech that is (or appears to be) nonsense. It may include speech sounds that are not actual words.
