What are 5 examples of permanent fixings?

A
  • Welding - Melting two pieces of metal together so they become one.
  • Soldering- Melting metal between two pieces of metal to glue/bond them together
  • Clinching- Join sheet metal with special ‘stamps’ which connect them together
  • Riveting
  • Brazing - Welding using brass metals which allows it to be done more safety at lower temperatures.

A

Laminating - When an external layer is added to a product to improve physical and aesthetic qualities
Combining - Different materials are mixed to improve properties such as epoxy resins or carbon fibre

What are 4 types of adhesives?

A

Epoxy Resin- Works on many different materials and gives a strong bond but can be toxic.

Super Glue- Very quick and strong bond but needs to be handled with care due to reactions with skin or certain materials

PVA wood glue - Provides a cost effective, safe and strong bond between woods once clamped together

Polyurethanes- Fast curing and robust bonding surfaces/ sheets. They are used in door seals and tank caps for a car.
