Instinct Theory
unlearned, uniform in expression, universal in species
Drive theory
motivate us to do activities that decrease tension

people are motivated to behave in ways that keep them at their own optimal level of arousal
Incentive Theory
lure of rewards and the threat of punishment
Hunger
a state of wanting to eat
Satiety
a state of not wanting to eat anymore
What signals hunger?
signals from stomach signals from blood (rat example) glucose CCK (cholecystokinin) hormone/neurotransmitter Leptin (released by fat cells)
