What is a Metaphor?
A comparison without using the words “like” or “as.”
Ex. She had a heart of gold.
What is a Simile?
A comparison using the words “like” or “as.”
Ex. She was as sweet as honey.
What is a Hyperbole?
An exaggeration of something.
Ex. I’m so hungry I could eat a horse.
What is an Idiom?
A saying that doesn’t make sense but everyone uses it.
Ex. Something smells fishy.
What is Alliteration?
When two or more words have the same sound or letter.
Ex. The crunchy cuisine was so crisp.
What is an Oxymoron?
When two words are used together when they shouldn’t be.
Ex. Random order, pretty ugly.
What is Personification?
Giving non-human things human characteristics.
Ex. The storm screamed.
What is Onomatopoeia?
Words that are spelled like the sounds they make.
Ex. Kaboom!
