What are the three things a democracy must have to be considered a democracy?
- fair and regular elections with a variety of representatives.
- equal opportunities and freedom from discrimination
- respect for human rights
What are the areas to criticise in the UK?
There is still discrimination and children’s rights are abused.
How many children are I poverty and if you are born into poverty what is likely to happen?
1 in 6 children are born into poverty. If you are born into poverty you are likely to leave school without any qualifications - struggle through low paid jobs.
If you are born into poverty what are you likely to suffer from?
Mental and physical health problems.
What are children born into a family with a higher income likely to have?
Less barriers to success.
What is this an issue of?
Equal opportunities and human rights.
What is a priority of the SNP at the moment?
To close the Attainment Gap.
What is the Attainment Gap?
It is the difference between pupils in low income areas and those in higher income areas. If you are in a poorer area, you are likely to perform poorer.
What are the SNP doing as a result of this?
Giving primary 1-3 pupils free school lunches.
