and twisted together to form a strand called
yarn.
What is a fabric ?
Fabric is a flat structure that is constructed from fibres and yarns.
What are the two (2) groups fibres are classified in ?
Natural Fibres and Man-made Fibres
Define the term weaving.
This process of constructing fabric by interlacing the weft yarns and warp yarn at right angles to each other.
Define the term selvedge.
Is the tightly woven area of a fabric that prevents the fabric from unravelling.
Define the term weft.
These are yarns that run crosswise during weaving.
Define the term warp.
These are yarns that run lengthwise during weaving.
Name three types of natural-fibre.
Silk, Cotton and Linen.
Name three types of man-made fibre.
Nylon, Polyester and Rayon.
Methods of fabric construction.
Weaving
Knitting
Plaiting
What is Weaving?
the craft of lacing fibers together to make fabric or cloth.
What is Knitting?
a method for production of textile fabrics by interlacing yarn loops with loops of the same or other yarns
What is Plaiting?
made by interlacing three or more yarns or fabric strips, forming a flat or tubular narrow fabric
