What is the aim of fertility policies?
They aim for optimum population and address under and over population.
What is pro-natalist policy?
They address under population and aim to increase the fertility rate of a country.
How do they achieve higher fertility rate?
They could use coercive strategies such as in Romania where they increased taxes for married couples childless over the age of 25.
They could also receive a financial award such as in France/Sweden and Germany for if you have a certain number of children.
What is an anti-natalist policy?
This is a policy which addresses overpopulation and aims to decrease fertility rates.
How do they decrease fertility rates?
They could use a coercive strategy such as the one child policy used in China.
They could use a democratic approach like in Mauritius which focused on raising the status of women, restricting early marriage and improving family planning advice.
