fatty tumors Flashcards
age intraosseous lipoma
30-60yo
location intraosseous lipoma
fibular, femur, tibia, calcaneus
bone location intraosseous lipoma
M
soft tissue lipoma age
30-50yo
soft tissue lipoma location
subcutaneous tissues of back, extremities, thorax
pathophysiology intraosseous lipoma stages
1 = viable non necrotic fat w/ trabecular resorption 2 = viable fat, fat necrosis and dystrophic ca++ 3 = involution of the lesion
rad app intraosseous lipoma
lucent lesion w/ thin sclerotic border
- can have lobulations/septations
- dystrophic central ca++
- can expand
rad app of intraosseous lipoma in different stages
1 = lucent 2 = lucent, sometimes expansile, lesion w/ central ca++ 3 = lucent lesion w/ sclerotic border; w/ or w/o central ca++
intraosseous lipoma in calcaneus sign
Cockade sign
intraosseous lipoma MRI
high T1 low T2
hibernoma definition
rare benign fatty tumor from brown fat
age hibernoma
20-40yo
clinical symptoms hibernoma
slow growing painless mass
-symptoms d/t compression of adjacent structures
cytogenic analysis hibernoma
11q13 translocation
helps ddx from liposarc
location hibernoma
where normal brown tissue is present = thigh, shoulder, back, neck, chest, arm
(rare in retroperitoneum)
CT hibernoma
attenuation b/t fat and muscle ; enhances slightly w/ contrast and may have prominent feeding vessel
MRI hibernoma
high T1 and T2; but slightly less than subcu fat
DDX hibernoma
liposarc, rhabdomyoma, resolving hematoma
