How do you care for pet pigs
Housing:
indoors- need to be house trained, can be destructive, very sensitive to environmental temperature changes
Diet:
need to be fed with food sufficient in fiber to avoid constipation
grazing, horse ration, fruits, vegetables, lucerne, hay and kitchen scraps can be fed
The breeding of pigs
- Puberty: 6-7 months
- Heat: every 21 days (lasts 3)
- Litter size: 4-12
- Sterilization: 2-4 months old
The training of pigs
- can be trained to use a litter box, and walk on a leash
- Only use positive reinforcement, can become aggressive if punished
- Teach young piglets to be picked up at an early stage
The general care of pigs
- soft brush for daily grooming
- Tusks can e trimmed in piglets and removed at 4 months
- Ears should be cleaned with alcohol and cotton balls
- Deworm twice a year
