James Oglethorpe
King George II gave land in the new world to him to keep the Spanish and French away from South Carolina. He wanted to start a colony for poor people and debtors, so they wouldn’t have to go to prison in England
Wampanoag
During the time of hte Pilgrim, Massasoit was their leader. Later Metacomet, also known as King Philip, led them into a war known as King Philip’s War. These Native Americans tried to keep their land, but they lost. Many were killed. Some were enslaved or forced to leave. After this, there were very few Native Americans left in New England.
