What is excretion?

A

The removal of metabolic wastes from the body
– carbon dioxide, water, salt, urea
Waste diffuses from cells into blood and then out of the body through different organs
– skin, lungs, liver, kidneys

Explain what the urinary system is

A

The kidneys act as a filter which removes any body waste safely. Without the kidneys, it would not take long for the body’s system to be poisoned by its own waste, however the body can function properly with one kidney. The waste that drains from the kidneys is commonly known as urine

Explain filtration

A

occurs in the glomerulus the blood pressure forces water, salt, glucose, amino acids and urea into the bowman’s capsule. Protein and blood cells are too large to cross the membrane therefore they remain in the blood. The fluid that enters the renal tubules is called the filtrate.
