Excretion in humans Flashcards
What is secreted from the lungs?
CO2
What do kidneys excrete?
urea and excess water and ions
Where is urea formed?
the liver
From what is urea formed?
excess amino acids
Describe deamination
the removal of the nitrogen-containing part of amino acids to form urea
Explain the importance of excretion, limited to
toxicity of urea
urea is a nitrogenous waste product that is formed from the breakdown of proteins in the liver. It is then transported to the kidneys, where it is filtered out of the blood and excreted from the body in the form of urine.
If urea is not excreted from the body, it can build up to toxic levels in the blood. This can lead to a condition called uremia, which can be life-threatening if left untreated
state the role of the glomerulus
filtration from the blood of water, glucose, ions and urea
state the role of the nephron
reabsorption of
all of the glucose, some of the ions and most
of the water back into the blood
where is urine formed?
collecting duct
what is urine formed of?
urea, excess water and excess ions
