Q

Outline research into minority influence

A

Minority influence is when 1 person or a small group influences the beliefs of others. There are three processes which are used

Consistency in their belief over time (Diachronic consistency) and between all individuals involved (Synchronic consistency) to draw attention to the minority view

Commitment to their cause, this is through the augmentation principle (sacrifices)

Flexibility, not to be seen as rigid and in accepting, minority needs to be adaptable and listen to other viewpoints.

These three processes lead to social change, as it alters the majorities viewpoint which leads to a conversion of the minorities beliefs becoming their own. The more people that take the minorities belief leads to the snowball effect (Minority now become the majority)
