Evaluation For Duration In LTM Flashcards
Bahrick: mundane realism
High external validity, the photos were of real people from the participants life therefore it was a genuine test of their LTM so it had high mundane realism as it was artificial.
Bahrick: attrition
As it was a longitudinal study, it can be expected that there were higher drop mount rates compared to a different study. Therefore, there may be a biased sample because some people may have dropped out as they developed amnesia, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s therefore the study hasn’t tested their LTM
Bahrick: population validity
Bahrick was testing LTM if it was potentially lifelong, even though the study was longitudinal they didn’t measure it for those over the age of 74 therefore it can be argued that it lacks population validity to an extent
Bahrick: cause and effect
However, it was difficult to control therefore cause and effect can’t be established. E.g. some participants may have looked at their own private old photos more regularly than others and this May account for why they could remember the class mates better.
