eukaryotic Flashcards
what does the nucleus contain?
nucleolus, pores, nuclear envelope, chromatin, nucleoplasm
nucleoplasm
cytoplasm of nucleus
filled with chromatids
pores
allow substances like rna to move from the nucleus
nucleolus
dark region of chromatin producing ribosomes and rna
what does the nucleus contain
dna and proteins
how does the dna fit in the cell
the dna coils around histone proteins.8 histones typically forms one nucleosome
what is in a mitochondrion ?
cristae, outer and inner membrane, matrix
mitochondrion
8 micrometers long, where aerobic respiration and ATP synthesis takes place.
how does ATP produce energy
glucose produces ATP, which releases energy by releasing one phosphate molecule( as ATP is a triphosphate)
membranes
outer membrane is quite permeable, and inner membrane is folded into cristae
cristae
this gives mitrochindrion a large SA for enzyme attachment
matrix
contains small circular strands of dna, lipids and proteins
smooth endoplasmic reticulum
tubular membrane channels involved in synthesising, storing and transporting lipids and carbohydrates
rough endoplasmic reticulum
same as SER but studded with ribosomes creating a rough appearance
golgi body
series of flattened membrane sacks or cistern with small hollow structures called vesicles
it modifies and transports proteins from the RER to the cell membrane for export
