-Win at all costs, use violence to achieve success
-Supporters seeing violence, may copy behaviour of role models, significant others

-Makes competition fairer
-Pressure to take PED’s, pressure to succeed
-Political pressure, pressure on individual to win to attain status for nation
-Increased income, prize money for winning and increased sponsorship
