what is deception?

A

deliberately misleading or withholding info from participants (can sometimes be justified if it doesn’t cause undue distress)

how can the issue of deception be dealt with?

A

at the end of the study participants should be given a full debrief, told what their data will be used for and given the opportunity to withhold this data
in extreme cases may need to be reassured their behaviour was normal, or possibly given counselling
