Eosinofils and Basophils Flashcards
What do Eosonophils look like?
red stained granules by acid dyeeosin and the shape of the nucleus does not matter
What is the function of eosinophils?
ingests products of AB/AG reactions, they also have antiparasitic, phagocyytic, and bacteriocidel properties
when do eosinophils show up?
they increase during parasitic infections and hyper sensitivity
what attracts eosinophils?
allergic/anaphylactic reactions
what species have eosinofils where the granules vary in size, shape, and number and do not completely fill the cytoplasm?
dogz
what species have eosinophils where the granules are small and oval or rod shaped that usually fill the cytoplasm?
catz
what species have large, round awesome granules in their eosinofphils?
horses
what species have eosinophils that have small and round granules that fill the cytoplasm?
cows
what is the normal percentage of eosinophils to see?
0-10%
What do basophils look like?
dark purple stained granules, the nucleus shape does not matter
what substances do basophils release?
histamine (for inflammation and allergic reactions) and heparin (anticoagulant)
what species has basophils where the granules stain dark purple but do not fill the cytoplasm?
canine
what species have basophils that may degranulate before release from the bone marrow or they stain light lavendar and make the cytoplasm look violet?
cats
what species have basophils with numerous dark purple granules?
cows and horses
in a D/C/S/G/H and cow how many eosinophils and basophils is normal?
E: 0-10% B:rare
