Eoc Vocab Right Flashcards
Biotic
Relating to or resulting from living things especially in their ecological relations. The preservation of biotic diversity
Abiotic
Physical rather than biological not derived from living organisms
Equilibrium
A state of rest or Equal balance due to equal action of opposing forces
Ecosystem
Organisms and their environment. Together independent organisms together with the environment that they inhabit and depend on
Population density
Measure of the intensity of land use, expressed as number of people per square kilometer or square mile
Niche
How An organism or population responds to the distribution of resources and how it in turn Alters those same fActors.
Biodiversity
The variety of life in the world or in a particular habitat or ecosystem
Nonrenewable resource
A type of natural resource that cannot be replenished it takes time for nature to produce it replenish in order to sustain the rate of consumption
Fossil fuel
Natural fuel like pal or gas formed in the geological past from the remains of living organisms
Sustainability
Ability to substantiate a statement. Ability to maintain or support an actively or process over the long term
Natural selection
The process whereby organisms better adapted to their environment tend to survive and produce more offspring
Evolution
The process by which different kinds of living organisms are thought to have developed and diversified from earlier forms during the history of earth
Competition
A contest between organisms individuals or groups for territory a niche of a location of resources for goods mates recognition of social status.
Adaptation
a trait with a current functional role in an organism that is maintained and evolved by means of natural selection
Homologous structures
Having the same origin but different function. Wings of a bird/ fin of a fish
Vestigial structure
Refers to an legal or part which is greatly reduced from the original ancestral form and is no longer functional or is of reduced or altered function. Tenants of structures found in ancestral species
Mutation
A permanent change of the nucleotide sequence of the genome of an organisms virus or genetic element. Mutations result from in repaired damage to DNA or to that genome from insertion or deletion
Species
Largest group of living organisms consisting of similar individuals capable of exchanging genes or interbreeding
Variation
Variation is brought about mutation it’s a change in difference in condition, amount of level. A difference or distinct form or version of something else
Phenotype
The set of observable characteristics of an individual resulting from the interaction of its genotype with the environment
Genotype
The genetic makeup of a cell or organism
Chloroplasts
Contains chlorophyll and photosynthesis is conducted
