Environment And Feeding Relationships Flashcards
Habitat
A place where organisms live
Ecosystem
A community of plants and animals together with the habitat where they live
Food chain
A sequence that shows feeding relationships
Producer
A plant that makes food from photosynthesis
Adaptation
A feature that helps an organism to survive
Conductor
A material that will let electricity go through it
Insulator
A material that will not let electricity go through it
Voltage
The amount of energy transferred in the circuit
Ammeter
Measures the flow of the current in the circuit in amps
Voltmeter
Measures the energy that has been transferred in the circuit in volts
Particle
A minute piece of matter everything is made of particles
Melting point
A temperature at which a solid becomes a liquid
Boiling point
The temperature at which a liquid turns into a gas
Insoluble
Something that does not dissolve
Diffusion
The movement of particles from a high to a low concentration
Solute
The solid that is dissolved
Balanced diet
Eating wide variety of foods to give us all the things that we need
Digestion
Process that breaks food into soluble substances in our bodies
Nutrients
Substances needed in the diet to provide raw materials
Respiration
Process that uses up oxygen to release energy from food. Carbon dioxide is produced as a waste gas
Gas exchange
Taking oxygen into the blood and getting rid of carbon dioxide into the lungs. Happens in the air sacs in the lungs.
Element
A substance made up of only one type of atom
Compound
Two or more elements are chemically bonded together
Periodic table
A list of all the known elements
