you take an object or animal and give it human qualities, such as emotions, thoughts or motions
what is a SIMILE?
a comparison of something using like or as
what is a METAPHOR?
A metaphor is a figure of speech that describes an object or action in a way that isn’t literally true, but helps explain an idea or make a comparison. for eg He’s a couch potato. She’s got a heart of gold. That party was the bomb. Money is the root of all evil.
what is ALLITERATION?
a chain of words starting with the same letter or sound
eg sally slurps snakes for supper
what is ONOMATOPOEIA?
a word making a sound eg bang!!
what is LEXICAL CHAIN?
a series of related words in writing. eg pizza slice
what is JUXTAPOSITION?
two things placed together to create contrasting affect.
what is an anaphora?
the use of starting neighbouring sentences with the same word to create theatrical effect for eg. we must stop this, we must end evil,
we must bring light!
what is SIBILANCE?
a shhhh sound created in writing eg a angry snake, words starting with s and z to create effect
what is PERSPECTIVE?
the authors attitude and who the text is situated on- third person - first person- third person. (point of view)
what is ASSONANCE?
: repetition of vowels without repetition of consonants (as in stony and holy) used as an alternative to rhyme in verse.
what is bias?
prejudice for or against one person or group, especially in a way considered to be unfair.
what is a ALLUSION?
an allusion is a figure of speech that references a famous person, place, event, or literary work. Allusions are either implied or direct.
for eg. your not wonder women stop trying to save everyone!
what is an oxymoron?
a figure of speech that combines contradictory words with opposing meanings, like “old news,” “deafening silence,” or “organized chaos.”
