Energy transfer Flashcards
What are the eight types of energy?
- Electrical energy.
- Light energy.
- Sound energy.
- Kinetic energy/movement energy.
- Nuclear energy.
- Thermal energy/heat energy.
- Elastic potential energy.
- Chemical energy.
What is an example of electrical energy?
Whenever a current flows.
What is an example of light energy?
From the sun, light bulbs etc.
What is an example of sound energy?
From loudspeakers or anything noisy.
What is an example of kinetic energy?
Anything that’s moving has it.
What is an example of nuclear energy?
Released only from nuclear reactions.
What is an example of thermal/heat energy?
Flows from hot objects to colder ones.
What is an example of gravitational potential energy?
Possessed by anything which can fall.
What is an example of elastic potential energy?
Stretched springs, elastic, rubber bands etc.
What is an example of chemical energy?
Possessed by foods, fuels, batteries etc.
What are potential-energy and chemical-energy forms of?
Stored energy.
What is stored energy?
When the energy is not doing anything, only waiting to be turned into one of the other forms of energy.
What principle do all types of energy obey?
That energy can be transferred usefully from one form to another, stored or dissipated, but it can never be created or destroyed.
What is dissipated?
When the energy is spread out and lost.
What is another important energy principle?
That energy is only useful when it can be converted from one form to another.
