What was the issue with religion?
The multiple religion changes with the previous monarchs had caused instability and violence. She needed to find a good balance between catholics, protestants and now puritanism.
Why did Elizabeth decide not to marry?
- How much power her husband would have over England was an issue - Elizabeth didn’t want to lose control
- After her father (Henry VIII) married 6 different times, she never wanted to marry
- Could cause jealousy
